Jeff Bezos Consortium Nears Deal for Major Stake in Liverpool FC
11 Aug 2026

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly part of a consortium nearing a deal to buy a significant minority stake in Liverpool FC, in what could become one of the biggest football investment deals in recent years.
The proposed transaction would see the group acquire around 30% of Liverpool, while Fenway Sports Group (FSG) would remain the club’s majority owner. The deal is reported to be worth about £1.35 billion, valuing Liverpool at roughly £4.4 billion to £4.5 billion.
Who Is Behind the Liverpool Investment?
The consortium is reportedly led by businessman Amit Bhatia, who has previous experience in football through Queens Park Rangers.
Alongside Bezos, the investor group is also reported to include Eduardo Saverin, the billionaire co-founder of Facebook. Talks are said to be advanced, although the transaction has not yet been formally completed.
For Bezos, the investment would mark a major move into sports ownership after years of speculation linking him with American sports franchises.
What Would the Deal Mean for Liverpool?
FSG has owned Liverpool since 2010 and would retain control if the reported minority investment goes ahead. The group previously brought in outside capital when Dynasty Equity acquired a small stake in the club in 2023.
A new investment of this scale could strengthen Liverpool's financial position and provide greater flexibility for long-term projects, although a minority shareholder would not automatically control sporting decisions or transfer spending.
The deal also reflects the rapid rise in football club valuations. Liverpool's reported valuation of around £4.4 billion highlights how leading Premier League clubs are increasingly being viewed as major global sports and entertainment assets.
Is Jeff Bezos Buying Liverpool?
Not outright.
Current reports suggest Bezos is participating in a consortium seeking approximately a 30% stake rather than buying Liverpool FC completely.
The deal is also not yet finalised, so reports describing Bezos as Liverpool's new owner would be premature. FSG is expected to remain the controlling shareholder if the transaction proceeds in its currently reported form.
If completed, however, the arrival of one of the world's most prominent technology entrepreneurs would add another major name to the growing list of billionaire investors entering elite global football.
