UEFA Bans Prestianni Provisionally Before Madrid Clash

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Champions League knockout stages, UEFA has officially handed Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni a provisional one-match suspension. The ruling, announced late Monday, ensures the Argentine starlet will miss Wednesday’s high-stakes second leg against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

"This provisional suspension is without prejudice to any ruling that the UEFA disciplinary bodies may subsequently make following the conclusion of the ongoing investigation."

Should the 20-year-old be found guilty of discriminatory behavior under Article 14, he could face a minimum 10-match ban, effectively ending his European season.

Benfica and Player Defense

Both Prestianni and Benfica have maintained a stance of firm denial. Taking to social media, Prestianni claimed that Vinícius "misunderstood" his words and expressed regret over threats he allegedly received from Madrid players following the game.

Benfica has officially signaled its intent to appeal the decision, though club officials conceded the timeline is unlikely to change Prestianni's availability for the Bernabéu. The Portuguese side has framed the situation as a "smear campaign," even releasing video footage to argue that Real Madrid players, including Kylian Mbappé, were too far away to have heard the specific exchange.
